Buried Penis
Many patients who suffer from buried penis usually have been dealing with it for years before they find help with us. Often, they have been dealing with difficulty urinating, chronic infections, and sexual problems. Many presume that it’s a problem with the size of the penis not understanding that the surrounding anatomy is the problem not the penis itself. Typically, patients who are prone to this problem carry their weight in the pubic area or may have lost a large amount of weight causing the tissue to deflate, sag and engulf the penis. Monsplasty or pubic lift for this reason is one of the most gratifying things we do in our practice.
Understanding Buried Penis
A buried penis, also known as a hidden or concealed penis, is a condition where the penis is partially or completely concealed beneath the surrounding tissue, primarily the pubic area. This condition can result in physical discomfort, hygiene challenges, and emotional distress. Our Approach
Dr. Gallagher’s approach to treating a buried penis is comprehensive and tailored to each patient’s unique needs. Some patients will choose to undergo a full tummy tuck while they are under getting rid of all the extra belly skin while others will choose to just focus on the area as that is a faster recovery. Many patients will choose to undergo liposuction of the abdomen at the d=same time to help improve contour.
Here’s a closer look at the key components of our typical treatment plan:
- Liposuction: Excess fat in the pubic area can contribute to the burying of the penis. Dr. Gallagher employs advanced liposuction techniques to remove excess fat and create a more aesthetically pleasing contour. This step not only enhances the appearance but also exposes the buried penis.
- Pubic Lift: The pubic lift procedure involves repositioning the pubic tissue to uncover the hidden penis. Dr. Gallagher carefully lifts and reshapes the pubic mound to reveal the full length of the penis. This surgical step plays a crucial role in achieving a successful outcome.
- Penile Fixation: To ensure a lasting and stable result, Dr. Gallagher may perform penile fixation. This involves securing the penis in its new position to prevent it from retreating beneath the surrounding tissue. Sometimes this requires a small separate incision on the underside of the penis.
Recovery
Most patients can undergo this procedure as an outpatient. It typically takes about 1-2 hours under anesthesia and patients can return home (or to their hotel) a couple of hours after surgery. Most patients take about 2 weeks off work and 6 weeks off heavy lifting.
