Introduction to Monsplasty or Pubic Lift

Typically, patients who are prone to this problem carry their weight in the pubic area or may have lost a large amount of weight, causing the tissue to deflate, sag, and engulf the penis. Monsplasty or pubic lift, for this reason, is one of the most gratifying things we do in our practice. For reasons that aren’t clear, some men will preferentially store weight in the pubic area. Usually, they will have a larger distance than normal from the belt line to the base of the penis. This extra tissue will result in inches lost from the shaft of the penis.

Many patients who suffer from buried penis usually have been dealing with it for years before they find help with us. Often, they have been dealing with difficulty urinating, chronic infections, and sexual problems. Many presume that it’s a problem with the size of the penis, not understanding that the surrounding anatomy is the problem, not the penis itself.

What is Monsplasty / Pubic Lift?

Monsplasty is designed to improve the appearance and function of the pubic area by removing excess fat and skin and tightening the underlying tissue. This procedure is particularly helpful for men whose penis appears partially or fully buried due to excess pubic fat, sagging skin, or changes in tissue following significant weight loss or aging.

In men who have too much pubic tissue as described above, this procedure lifts the area and helps uncover the shaft of the penis, giving more normal distances between the belt line and the penis. Usually, this procedure involves liposuction and lifting with the removal of excessive skin. Some fixation stitches on the penis may be required in some cases. Dr Gallagher uses a drain-free technique that supports recovery.

What is Buried Penis Syndrome?

A buried penis, also known as a hidden or concealed penis, is a condition where the penis is partially or completely concealed beneath the surrounding tissue, primarily the pubic area. This condition can lead to physical discomfort, hygiene issues, and emotional distress. Ideally, we want to treat the area before the penis becomes buried to help prevent skin and hygiene problems.

Usually, this is only needed in a true buried penis, and many patients with excess pubic tissue can avoid this step.

Most patients can undergo this procedure as an outpatient. It typically takes about 2 hours under anesthesia, and patients can return home (or to their hotel) a couple of hours after surgery. Most patients take about 1-2 weeks off work and 6 weeks off heavy lifting.

    I was able to get keyhole top surgery about three weeks ago and I’m loving my results already! I’m muscular and heavier set as well but always had a smaller chest, and I’m so glad Dr. Gallagher was the one who could do this for me.

    Dr. Gallagher and her team are the absolute best! She completed my brachioplasty on Tuesday and when I saw the initial results at my post op appointment two days later I literally had tears of joy streaming down my face.
