Dr Gallagher’s Usual preferred way of enhancing pec muscles is by using the patient’s own tissue. This means that we get the most natural result.
This is often done at the time of torso masculinization using liposuction. Fat is removed from unwanted curves (usually around the hips). This is processed and then carefully injected back into the pec area. Between 50 and 80% of this fat will take and stay there adding extra bulk to the area.
Using the patient’s own tissue has a few benefits. It cannot become infected or be “rejected” as an implant could and will usually look and feel more natural. If the patient has had a previous surgery on the chest (such as top surgery in the case of transgender men) the fat can be used to smooth out and carefully hide any lumps or sunken in areas.
What to expect
This surgery typically takes 1-2 hours and is done under general anesthetic. Often we are using our liposuction to sculpt the torso and better define the ab muscles. The patient will need to wear a binder or compression on the area the fat was taken from for about 6 weeks after surgery. Most patients return to work in about 1-2 weeks after surgery and full activity around 6 weeks after surgery.
